Tour Overview
The Marangu Route, also known as the “Coca-Cola Route”, is the only Kilimanjaro trekking route with hut accommodations. This 5-day trek is the shortest and most direct route to the summit, making it ideal for trekkers seeking a quick and budget-friendly climb. The trail passes through lush rainforests, moorlands, and alpine deserts, leading to the spectacular Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa.
5-Day Marangu Route Itinerary
After a briefing in Moshi, we drive to Marangu Gate (1,860m). After registration, the trek begins through the rainforest zone, rich with colobus monkeys and unique flora. Arrive at Mandara Hut (2,700m) for dinner and an overnight stay.

Today’s hike passes through moorland and heather zones, offering stunning views of Mawenzi Peak. The vegetation changes as we ascend, reaching Horombo Hut (3,720m) for an overnight stay.

The trail gradually ascends through alpine desert terrain, passing the Saddle, a vast stretch between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Arrive at Kibo Hut (4,703m) in the afternoon and prepare for the summit attempt. Early dinner and rest.

Midnight wake-up for the final ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895m). The trail passes Gilman’s Point (5,685m) before reaching Uhuru Peak, the Roof of Africa. Enjoy breathtaking views before descending back to Horombo Hut for overnight rest.

It is one of the easier routes due to gradual slopes, but the altitude gain is fast, so proper acclimatization is essential.
